Technical guidance is given, general principles outlined and examples of best practice are provided. This publication covers all aspects from manufacture to detailing, specification of finishes and fabrication, providing architects as well as engineers with essential information to inform the design.

Design of composite beams using precast concrete slabs in accordance with Eurocode 4 (P401)

This new publication takes the previously published SCI guidance provided in Design of Composite Beams using Precast Concrete Slabs (P287) 2003 based on BS 5950-3:1990 and presents updated guidance in accordance with the principles of Eurocode 4, supplemented by non-contradictory complementary information (NCCI).

Design of steel portal frame buildings to Eurocode 3 (P399)

This publication provides guidance for the elastic and plastic design of portal frames in the UK in accordance with the Eurocodes and their National Annexes P399

Handbook of structural steelwork - Eurocode edition (P201E)

This handbook gives a practical guide to the design of structural steel elements for buildings. It comprises three principal Sections: general guidance, general design data and design tables.

National structural steelwork specification for building construction 5th Edition (P203 CE)

The National Structural Steelwork Specification for Building Construction is presented here in its 5th Edition CE Marking Version. This version of the 5th Edition does not supersede the earlier version which remains current for applications where CE Marking is not required. (Published 2010)

Steel building design: Design data - Universal Column resistances in S460M steel (P404)

This new publication presents design data for Universal Column sections in S460 steel, derived in accordance with BS EN 1993-1-1 and its National Annex. The publication was developed to facilitate the design of columns in simple construction, providing compression and bending resistances in look-up format.

Wind actions to BS EN 1991-1-4 (P394)

This publication has been prepared to guide structural engineers through the process of establishing design wind actions for orthodox steel framed buildings in the UK, in accordance with the Eurocodes, UK National Annexes and other authoritative information. The calculation procedure to determine design wind actions is set out in Sections 5 and 6 and is demonstrated in a numerical example in Sections 9 and 10.

Design of composite highway bridges curved in plan (P393)

This design guide addresses the consequences of the plan curvature on the design of composite bridges and effectively offers a supplement to SCI design guides P356 and P357.

Design of steel beams in torsion (P385)

Resistance to torsion, usually in conjunction with bending, is a design situation where designers welcome guidance. This publication explains the basic behaviour of beams in torsion and provides formulae and graphs for evaluating the effects of torsion. (Published 2011)

Elastic design of single span steel portal frame buildings to Eurocode 3 (P397)

Steel portal frames are firmly established in the UK as a lightweight, highly efficient and cost effective way of enclosing usable volumes, accounting for the majority of the single storey market. This publication provides guidance on the design of portal frames in accordance with the Eurocodes, making recommendations where the design Standard is unclear.

Selection of steel sub-grade in accordance with the Eurocodes - Available in PDF format only (ED007)

This technical report was prepared to offer guidance on the selection of steel sub-grade, in accordance with BS EN 1993-1-10, the associated UK National Annex and other non-contradictory complementary information.

Steel Bridge Group: Model project specification for the execution of steelwork in bridge structures (P382)

This publication provides a set of clauses, to be used in bridge project specifications, that responds to the options and alternatives allowed in BS EN 1090-2, the execution standard for steelwork designed to Eurocode 3. The clauses are arranged under the headings in BS EN 1090-2 and for each clause a commentary is given, explaining the context of or background to the clause. Free download available from: www.steelbiz.org

Structural robustness of steel framed buildings (P391)

This publication provides design guidance for hot rolled steel framed buildings on the Eurocode strategies for structural robustness and designing for the avoidance of disproportionate collapse as required by the UK Building Regulations. (Published 2011)

Steel building design: Design data "Eurocode Blue Book" (P363)

The "Blue Book" is the essential aid for the design of steelwork. Comprehensive tables of member resistances are given for S275 and S355 steel. Republished June 2013; reprinted 2015. Please see details for more information.

Stability of steel beams and columns (P360)

This guide provides immediate practical guidance for both the common and the non-standard restraint conditions commonly found in construction. (Published 2011)

Joints in steel construction. Simple joints to Eurocode 3 - "The Green Book" (P358)

This publication is one of a series of “Green Books” that cover a range of steelwork connections. This publication provides guidance for nominally pinned joints (the most common joint type in steel building structures) that primarily carry vertical shear and, as an accidental limit state, tying forces. (Published 2011). NOTE: The tables in pages T-42, T-43, T-44, T-50, T-51 and T-52 of the first printing of November 2011 contained incorrect values of tying resistance; see the full description for further details.
